Eco Stewardship
..... at Becketts we believe in protecting the environment we're privileged to farm
Becketts has diversified in many ways over the years but we are definitely still farmers and manage over 1,000 acres of countryside around the local area. This is the equivalent of 1,000 football pitches. 800 of these acres are farmed to grow crops such as wheat, rapeseed and beans. The remaining 200 acres are managed as rough grazing for local livestock and as woodland areas which are so important to provide vital habitats for our British wildlife.
This year we're planning to become part of Operation Bumblebee which will help to increase habitats for our native bumblebee. As farmers we will be dedicating parts of our land to planting wild flowers to attract bumblebees and other "farming friendly" insects. The bumblebees love wild flowers as these provide them with nectar, and farmers love bumblebees because they pollinate crops. This in turn increases the harvested yield from the crop.
We'll update this webpage with news of further developments as they happen.

Helping Our Customers to Protect the Environment
In the Farm Shop we offer customers the choice of reusable "bags for life" as an alternative to plastic, and thus reduce plastic waste.
As a business we recycle more than 60% of our waste including paper and cardboard, plastics and any electrical or hazardous wastes we may have. This saves such items going to landfill and polluting the environment with greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide and methane).
We help our customers reduce their carbon footprint by enabling them to drastically reduce their food miles. As well as making all our bakery goods on site, the Farm Shop is a hub for local food producers. This means that consumers can purchase foods such as meat, vegetables and cheese knowing that it has been reared, grown or created without then travelling hundreds of miles and using gallons of fuel to reach the shop shelves.
