Simon's News : Simon is the 3rd generation Beckett to farm at Wythall

19th November . Key to any successful restaurant is the chef and we've found a star in Mike Thomas who joined us recently. What he calls his "true passion" perfectly fits the Becketts Farm philosophy. In Mike's own words this is "sourcing the finest local ingredients and turning them into something really special". The ever-growing popularity of our Sunday carvery proves he's got it right.

Mike, who lives locally, is married with four young daughters and another baby on the way. He previously worked for a number of prestigious companies before coming to Becketts. Most recently he spent five years with Toyk Restaurants in the Midlands and, before that, worked at Bank in Brindley Place, Momo's in London and at the RSC in Stratford.

He says his aim at Becketts is to create a wonderful dining experience - but one that can be enjoyed by typical families rather than being limited to just a small percentage of the population. Click to see Mike's photo.

About Becketts Farm

Becketts have been farming in Wythall - just south of Birmingham - for over 70 years and our mission is to bring both food and farming closer to the people. Beginning with just eggs from the farm back door we have always sold direct to the public. Today our Farm Shop employs four highly skilled butchers, six bakers and confectioners plus numerous trained assistants to supply you with the highest quality fresh meat, baked goods, greengrocery, preserves, eggs, deli produce and more.

We offer a tremendous range of sandwiches made while you wait, and a hot food counter where both snacks and whole meals are as tasty and genuine as granny used to make. If you'd like to enhance your own cooking skills our Orange Kitchen gives regular classes geared from beginner to professional level, with childrens' parties a speciality. Its skilled chefs are now offering ready prepared meals as well.

Our all-day Restaurant seats up to 140 and prepares meals from the same produce that is offered in the Shop. At intervals through the year and especially at Christmas it hosts special Themed Shows. The Restaurant incorporates a speciality coffee bar.

We have a Conference Centre with full facilities for up to 60 delegates and smaller rooms also available. A wide range of high quality catering options is offered by our Restaurant staff.
