As I write this update, we are just starting the first harvest of the season. It’s seems to be the first time in a few years that the weather is favourable to us. Let’s just hope it stays on side so we can get the job done!

Easter came and went in a flash! Although we couldn’t have any chicks at our Easter event this year, it was still a great success, and we owe a big thanks to all the families who visited us. It’s always wonderful to hear of families whose annual Easter tradition is to visit us year on year, especially those who bring along another generation!

Our events team are now making plans behind the scenes for our annual Halloween and pumpkin carving event – watch this space for more information coming soon.

A highlight of the summer at Becketts and for the local community is our Sunflower fields. They’ve now been planted twice as nature took hold the first time round! The drought we’re currently experiencing isn’t particularly helping either, but fingers crossed they’ll grow enough to open the fields up towards the back end of August.

Naturally, tenants come and go, and we lost Doodletogs who occupied a unit on the Heath Farm site last year. We’ve since welcomed Fundamental Movement Academy, who have done a wonderful job transforming the space and wish them every success.

My wife recently treated me to a spa experience, which included a facial. It’s something I’ve not experienced before, but I found it to be very invigorating. I came out absolutely exhausted with no reason why, but I’d be willing to try it again.

I left school nearly 50 years ago and recently attended a school reunion. I didn’t recognise half the people there and realised that out of the 100 people in my year, I’ve stayed in touch with around 5. Nevertheless, it was great to see everyone!

One issue with age is that your body feels the rub of it. I recently needed to have a tooth extracted and ended up with a dry socket and an abscess. Let’s just say “ouch” was the least of the words I was using!! Thankfully, it’s better now and I’m moving forward.

 

I was once told that birthdays are all about experiences or consumables. For my birthday this year, my wife purchased me a night’s stay in Bodmin Jail. Having spent £65 million on their refurbishment to a now 5* hotel, I can happily say it was the most enjoyable experience.
