First things first, I’d like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year. I hope you enjoyed your Christmas and New Year celebrations and that it all went well. Christmas for me personally was a quiet one – as I like it to be! I was fortunate enough to be cooked for on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day which was fabulous!!
Throughout the Christmas season, I was made rather envious of a stand-out jacket! I’ve made it my mission to find out where I can purchase one from but I’m still searching. Hopefully I can show off my own Christmas jacket this year – watch this space!
We attended a Murder Mystery event for New Year, which was Fawlty Towers themed. It was a rather low-key event, but it was highly amusing nonetheless and certainly worth repeating.
Google always seems to have an answer for everything, and I recently needed to search “how to empty a washing machine filter”. Both Google and the washing machine came up trumps – Google for providing the correct instructions and the washing machine for the £4.95 I found inside it!
As always, I’ve managed to do some flying, but the recent weather has made it rather difficult. On the days I’ve managed to get out I’ve been able to see well in some places, but not others. Of late, the snowy and foggy conditions have grounded me completely. Fingers crossed for some fairer weather soon.
My passion for baking continues and this time my quest is to bake the largest Yorkshire puddings I can. I was invited to a Yorkshireman’s house whose wife baked some wonderful Yorkshire puddings to accompany dinner. I was so impressed that it’s made me want to improve on mine and, of course, make mine even bigger!
On a sad note, we recently had the news
that our little dog is poorly. We endeavour to treat him the best we can and to treasure him for as long as we can.
Though the year has only just begun, the events team are already planning towards their next event – Easter. There’s Something Hatching at Becketts has been running for circa 45 years now, proving itself to be a firm favourite which always manages to put a smile on visitor’s faces. The event will be running between 12th and 27th April this year, more information to follow.
After losing the “old man” last year, I recognise the need for the business to move forward. While I have no desire to retire, I will be taking on the role of Chairman of the company and am both pleased and proud to inform you that my son, Adrian, will be taking on the role as Managing Director. Adrian is the fourth generation of Beckett to head up the company and I’m certain that it will continue to grow and evolve under his management. This of course, isn’t without the continued help, support and hard work of our staff and you, our customers, for which I am incredibly grateful.
Until next time.
