British Food Fortnight 2025 will be running from 26th September to 12th October and here at Becketts Farm, we are very proud to join in the celebrations! This national event is all about championing the best of British produce, whether it be fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, baked or ambient goods. Itโs a great opportunity for you to support British farmers and producers.
Yet, we do this all year round in our Farm Shop, working closely with select suppliers and independent producers, keeping British food at the heart of what we do. Read on to find out more about some top picks on our shelves and how you can celebrate with us.
During the fortnight, weโll be serving British-themed specials in our Restaurant and you can check out the menu for this here.
Plus, thereโll be a prize draw for the chance to win a fantastic โBest of Britishโ Hamper.
Eating with the seasons
The food grown on our doorstep is a great starting point for both delicious food and a happy planet! Seasonal, British fruit and vegetables are not only fresher as theyโve travelled fewer miles to reach your plate, but tastier too! Eating with the seasons is also a great way to add variety to your diet and to discover new produce you wouldnโt otherwise purchase.
September is a wonderful month for picking up some British produce with the majority leaning towards the warming comfort food that is needed on the cold autumn nights. In season right now are apples, blackberries, pears and plums โ perfect for those wholesome bakes and desserts. Earthy root vegetables are also at their best currently, with maincrop potatoes coming through as well as turnips. Pumpkins and squash are beginning to make an appearance as well, ideal for roasting or for making a warming soup!
Youโll find plenty of seasonal produce at our Greengrocers with each fruit and vegetable labelled with its country of origin. You can also visit the Eat The Seasons website who provide a handy weekly and monthly guide of foods that are in season in the UK.
Homemade favourites
Alongside our trusted suppliers, the team here in our Farm Shop work hard to handmake a number of fantastic items too!
All the bread lining our Bakery shelves is baked in store by our team of expert bakers. Using traditional methods, they bake through the early hours of the morning, 52 weeks of the year, ensuring thereโs fresh bread available each day.
Another best-selling item is our tasty, homemade quiche, generously filled with ingredients from our Farm Shop, including locally laid free-range eggs. Each quiche is baked in store too, so you canโt get more local than that!
Support British farmers
Our Butchery counter is always well stocked with a great selection of British meat. Most of what you see on the counter is sourced from within a 50-mile radius of our Farm Shop. Our expert team work closely with select suppliers to bring you top-quality meats.
A.E. Poxon and Sons have been supplying us with beef for many years, with the majority currently coming from Herefordshire. Our 28-day matured rib of beef is best seller and makes a superb centrepiece for a Sunday roast with the family.
Our friendly butchers are always happy to help with any questions you may have, including where the meat comes from, portion sizing and their top tips for cooking. The counter is open 7-days a week, providing great service and glad to supply only the quantities you require, meaning no waste!
Jam-packed with flavour!
As well as the fresh produce, youโll find a fantastic selection of jams, preserves and honeys available in our Farm Shop. The honey we source from Solihull Apiaries is harvested by Malcolm Taylor and travels less than 5 miles to reach us. Spread a dollop of local honey on some Beckettsโ Bakery bread for a mouth-watering breakfast.
For jams and preserves, Mrs Darlingtonโs have been following their traditional family recipe for over 40 years. Their legendary lemon curd was first produced back in 1980 when there was a surplus of eggs from the family farm. Fast forward to today and their range now boasts over 85 sweet and savoury lines and with each jar made with love, itโs no wonder theyโre an award-winning producer!
British Food Fortnight is so much more than a celebration of food, itโs a brilliant opportunity to support British farmers and producers, as well as forming a better connection with your food and where it comes from.
However you choose to support British produce over the coming fortnight, pop into our Farm Shop to discover the full range of British food we are so proud to offer.
