This British classic Bramley apple and blackberry crumble, is easy to make and sure to be a hit with all the family. Everyone loves a home-made crumble, and this one, made with juicy seasonal fruit and a crunchy topping, is just delicious.
Grown only in Britain, the Bramleyโs unique qualities make it one of the most versatile ingredients. The Bramley is rightly recognised by professional chefs and home cooks alike as the best apple for cooking.
Ingredients
For the filling –
500g blackberries
1kg BRAMLEY apples
LEMON JUICE
4 tbsp granulated sugar
For the Topping –
150g rolled oats
100g wholemeal flour
75g brown sugar
100g unsalted butter, cubed
Method
Preheat the oven to 180ยฐC, gas mark 4.
Wash the blackberries and remove any leaves and stalks.
Peel, core and cut the apples into quarters, then halve again.
Put in a large, ovenproof dish and mix with the lemon juice. Bake for 15โ20 minutes.
Meanwhile, make the topping. Place the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar and butter in a bowl and rub together until well mixed.
Gently mix the blackberries and the granulated sugar in with the apple. Cover with the topping and bake for 45 minutes until golden brown.
Serve your bramley apple and blackberry crumble warm with custard or vanilla ice cream.
