This recipe for hot dogs with buttery cider onions uses this week’s star ingredient – Hogan’s Medium Cider. The cider adds a delicious sticky sweetness to the onions, which perfectly accompany your favourite sausages in these tasty hot dogs. Scale up the recipe and prepare a large batch for feeding a crowd at BBQs, they go down a treat on burgers too!
Serves:4
Make in: 40 minutes
Ingredients:
30g butter
1 tbsp olive oil
2 finely sliced onions
100ml Hogan’s Medium Cider
1 tbsp light brown soft sugar
1 tbsp cider vinegar
4 sausages
4 Becketts’ Bakery finger rolls
Method:
Slowly melt the butter and oil in a pan. Reduce the temperature of your hob to low and add the onions with a generous pinch of salt. Allow the onions to cook for 25-30 minutes, stirring occasionally until caramelised.
Add the cider and simmer over a medium heat until the liquid is reduced, and the onion mixture thickens/becomes sticky.
Stir in the light brown sugar and cider vinegar.
Cook your sausages in your preferred way, according to the packet instructions.
Serve your hot dogs in Becketts’ Bakery finger rolls with your favourite sauce and a generous spoonful of the buttery cider onions.
