It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our company Chairman, Alan M. Beckett (MBE, NSch) on Sunday 18th February following a short illness, aged 93.

Alan took over the Beckett family business from his father in 1963 moving the farm away from dairy and very successfully into poultry farming. It was Alan who created both the limited company and established the very first Farm Shop here at Becketts Farm. Alan led the company as Managing Director until 1995, upon which he became company Chairman and has remained a cornerstone in the business and our community until his very last days.

Alan will be remembered fondly by staff, customers and the wider community for his inherent kindness and generosity. He would pay daily visits to the Farm Shop and Restaurant, always taking great interest in talking with both staff and customers alike about their day. He has been charitable within the local community supporting many local groups, churches and schools over the years.

The Nuffield Farming Scholarship was one of Alan’s greatest interests. He himself spent five months as a Nuffield Scholar in the USA and has sponsored a Nuffield Scholar every year since 1996, always retaining close links with the organisation and passionate about helping other young farmers receive the opportunities afforded to him in his earlier years.

As the head of a large family, spanning many generations his legacy in helping to build Becketts Farm as we know it today is carried on by his son, Simon and other members of the family.

It was Alan’s expressed wish that his life is celebrated and not mourned.

His funeral will be held on 22nd March at 2:45pm, at Redditch Crematorium.

Family flowers only, donations to the Macular Society are welcomed in Alan’s memory.

The funeral will be live streamed and will be available from 2.40 p.m. on day of the funeral and for one month afterwards.
