At Becketts Farm we are always striving to reduce food miles and support local suppliers. This British Food Fortnight 21st September – 6th October, we are celebrating all that is local and British. With the exception of some speciality ingredients, fruit and vegetables our Farm Shop is packed to the rafters with fantastic British products and producers. Here are some of of our favourite British suppliers.
Sessions of Worcestershire
One of our staple suppliers at Becketts Farm is Sessions of Worcestershire who supply us with fantastic sausages. In fact, they supply us with 10,000 KG of sausages per year! These sausages can be enjoyed in our Restaurant on our famous breakfasts. Additionally, our butchers counter stock 9 different flavour varieties. Sessions of Worcestershire has been established for over 35 years and is a traditional third generation family run business specialising in the manufacture of sausage and catering butchery. Excellent quality and superior taste are their top priorities. We’ll have samples of these sausages on both 21st and 28th September so pop by and try before you buy!

Their Colston Bassett Stilton consistently tops the charts and has won awards for ‘Best British Cheese Brands’ in the Guild of Fine Foods’ and Silver medal at the International Cheese Awards. We are proud to stock this fantastic cheese and we think you should give it a try. Delicious crumbled on top of this Celeriac and Apple Coleslaw. We’ll be offering samples of this cheese on 27th September and 4th October.
Two Birds
Two Birds spirits was founded in 2013, in the quaint British countryside town of Market Harborough, Leicestershire. It all started with a love for great tasting gin, experimenting at home in the ‘workshop’ for months, tinkering around trying to develop the perfect drinking gin… and thus their multi-award winning London Dry Gin was created. From the multi-award winning London Dry Gin to the super indulgent Salted Caramel Vodka and even their quintessentially English Sloe Gin; their aim is simple… To keep Britain in mighty fine spirits! Enjoy samples of these delicious spirits on Wednesday 25th September in the Farm Shop.
Punjaban
In short, Charanjit Sapal (aka Charlie) began making her curry sauce in batches for her son Gurjeet, who was at university. Gurjeet had huge demand for these sauces from his university friends and started selling it to them for beer money. Almost 10 years later, Gurjeet and his sister Ria now run their ever-growing business with their Mom, Charlie. Punjaban Curry Sauces fly off the shelves here at Becketts, and we think they are perfect for a speedy Saturday night tea! Don’t forget the giant Naan Breads we sell from yet another great British producer, Leicester Bakery! During British Food Fortnight, we’ll be offering Punjaban curry sauce jars on special offer at 2 for £5. Sample these delicious sauces in our Farm Shop on 28th September and 5th October.

British beef is the envy of the world. In Britain we have some of the highest welfare standards in the world and regulations about the way that our beef is produced. Buying British beef is good news for the environment too. The distance between each farm and shop is smaller than imported beef. This means fresher meat and less of a carbon footprint. The beef which Shire Meadows supply is used in our Restaurant and Butchers and is farmed within a 50 mile radius. Try this succulent beef in this fantastic, warming BBQ Beef Stew.
