Simon’s News – October 2020

Simon’s News – October 2020

Our sunflower field has now been cut back and cleared in preparation for next year. The reaction from the public this summer was fantastic and so over whelming that we plan to re-plant again next summer and hopefully a bit more. Watch out on our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for updates nearer the time.

As we head into the autumn and winter months the next big question is where we go from here? We have already had to cancel our regular Christmas party nights as we see no change in the current guidelines particularly with large gatherings. Peoples perceptions of the rules are very different including our very own Prime Minister. There are many people out there that very much still feel very threatened by this all and rightly so.

Sadly, a friend of mine has suffered secondary implications from Covid-19 including a mini stroke and a bleed to the brain. Receiving this news is so sad and is very much a reminder that this is still a serious situation, and everyone needs to remember that. Please take care and stay safe for everyone’s health.

We continue to convert the barns at Fulford, which reminds me of how you can turn any ruined building into a beautiful home. You would not believe I live in a converted pig pig stysty. If you would like any further information on our barn conversions, drop me an email – simon@beckettsfarm.co.uk

I had a very interesting day visiting a tree specialist in Ely last month. I am looking to plant a further 30 specimen trees, like the treeones you see here. My current favourites are purple maples and exotic pear. I am awaiting a visit from the grower who will provide me with some advice on where the trees will be best planted and what variety. Why do I want to plant more trees you may ask? My old motive is simply because I like them, and I can.

Good news, we now have pumpkins in stock from our Greengrocers! It is such a sad thing when I can’t do my usual dress up for our Pumpkin Parlour event. Here is a reminder of how my alter ego looks. We hope to welcome you back to our Pumpkin Parlour in 2021.halloween

Until next time

S.B.
